Honoring Our Veterans: Rockford’s Annual Veterans Dinner Celebrates Over 80 Years of Tradition
Rockford, IL — For over 80 years, the Veterans Dinner in Rockford has been a cherished tradition, bringing together veterans and the wider community to honor those who have served. What began as a celebration of the Armistice of World War I has evolved into an annual event, now honoring veterans from all eras and fostering connections between the public, private sectors, and those who served our nation.
This year’s Veterans Dinner will take place on November 2, 2024, beginning with a social hour and cocktails at 5:30 PM, followed by dinner at 6:45 PM at Embassy Suites. Attendees can select from a delectable menu, featuring Boneless Short Rib, Crispy Salmon with Beurre Blanc Sauce, or a Vegetarian Entrée, all served with garlic and gouda whipped potatoes, artisan vegetables, dessert, and beverages.
The evening’s highlight will be a keynote address by Major General Elder Granger, who began his distinguished career as a combat medic in 1971 and rose to serve as Deputy Director of TRICARE Management Activity. His leadership within the U.S. Army and commitment to healthcare for military personnel has earned him over 30 military and community service awards, including the Department of Defense Superior Service Medal, the U.S. Army Legion of Merit with Three Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Bronze Star Medal.
“The Veterans Dinner is a time-honored tradition that reminds us of the sacrifices made by our servicemen and women. This event provides an opportunity for the community to come together in a spirit of gratitude and respect,” said Scott Lewandowski, the event coordinator. “We are especially excited to welcome Major General Granger, whose contributions to military medicine and veterans’ welfare have been extraordinary.”
The tradition of honoring veterans on November 11th dates back to 1918, when the Armistice that ended World War I went into effect on the Eleventh Hour of the Eleventh Day of the Eleventh Month. Since then, communities across the nation have paused to honor the brave men and women who have served in our armed forces.
Tickets for the Veterans Dinner are on sale now at $450 per table of 8 or $60 per person. To purchase tickets or for more information, contact Scott Lewandowski at Veterans Memorial Hall.
Join us in this special evening of recognition, reflection, and community as we celebrate our veterans and their lasting contributions to our nation.
