Winnebago County joined by representatives of its local municipalities will mark the beginning of the State of Illinois’ 200th year celebration with a ceremonial flag raising of the new State of Illinois bicentennial flag. The event will include a proclamation reading, vocal performance, and special bicentennial flag raising at noon at the same time as bicentennial flags across the state.
Sunday, December 3, 2017, marks Illinois’ 199th birthday, Illinois became the 21st state in the union on December 3, 1818. The State of Illinois Bicentennial will be a yearlong celebration between December 3, 2017, and December 3, 2018, which will be our state’s 200th birthday. The Illinois Bicentennial will remind us all that, every day in Illinois, amazing things are BORN, BUILT & GROWN. The Illinois Bicentennial will honor the many ways that Illinois has influenced American history, achievement, culture, innovation, and more. Illinois’s Bicentennial is an once-in-a-lifetime invitation to fall in love with Illinois all over again.
